The Friends of the Fredericksburg Nature Center (FNC) thank you for visiting our website. We hope that you have visited or will have the opportunity soon to visit our nature center showcasing the wild side of the Hill Country. Let our website be your guide to the center while also informing you about all the activities of the Friends of the Fredericksburg Center.
The Fredericksburg Nature Center is located on a 15 acre tract of land bisected by Live Oak Creek and nestled within the Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park. The nature center provides over one mile of hiking trails with great views, an all-season creek, a Bird Blind, Butterfly Habitat, Pollinator Garden, Geology Exhibit, and information kiosks for your education and enjoyment. Ultimately, our goal is to establish an Interpretative Center as a capstone to your educational experience here.
FNC features an impressive array of biodiversity including seven different micro-habitats ranging from riparian to prairie to arid. Our species surveys to date have identified 265 species of wildflowers, 180 species of resident and migrating birds, 100 butterflies, and 50+ species of Odonates. We take pride in the fact that a one mile hike will allow you the opportunity to experience a large slice of Hill Country ecology.
In 2000, our founder, Bill Lindemann, initiated the concept of the FNC in partnership with the City of Fredericksburg. To accomplish that, he created the Friends of the Fredericksburg Nature Center (FFNC), a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing the volunteer labor and necessary funding to build and maintain the nature center. Today, the nature center and supporting FFNC are thriving with plans for future improvements. We welcome new members and volunteers along with your financial support. Look for information on the “Volunteers” and “Membership” tabs about how to support the nature center or participate in FFNC.
Please come visit FNC for some nature bathing or just a great walk in the park. Hope to see you there.
Happy Nature Trails!
Lonnie Childs
President, Friends of the Fredericksburg Nature Center
